FAQ: Applying for Credit Cards online

How do I apply for a credit card through this website?
We have simplified the process for you down to three steps:
1.) Click on a hyperlink from our left-hand menu for the credit card offer you are interested in.
2.) Review the offers in the results page, and click on the  Apply Now  button of the credit card of your choice.
3.) Fill out the application form through a secure server.

What personal information will I need to provide the credit card issuer?
The usual information required for this type of transaction, such as: your name, address, date of birth, driver's license number, Social Security number, and annual household income.

How long does it take to get approved?
It varies on several factors, primarily your credit rating. Some of our issuers offer instant approval, while others may require a few weeks to arrive at a decision. You will be notified by snail mail, e-mail or both, after one has been reached.

Do you have any tips I can use?
For first time online applicants, here are some suggestions:
1.) Do not use use a public computer, especially if you are a newcomer to the Internet. If you do not have access to a personal computer, learn how to erase your electronic tracks by clearing your history file, cookies, etc. beforehand.
2.) Just as in a paper application, there is also fine print on any online application form. Be sure to read and understand everything it contains, even if it means staying online longer than you expected.
3.) Make sure your connection is secure - like ours - and that the website you are entering personal information on is the issuer's website. There are various third-party software programs and web tools to ensure this, some available as freeware.
4.) Read through some of the articles in our library, especially the "Introductions" & "Guides" before beginning your search.
5.) Look through our recommendations for what we feel is the best "all-around" card in its category. We have chosen offers that have low annual fees & annual percentage interest rates (APR), with reward programs & long grace periods.
6.) Research the credit card you are interested in by doing a Google search from the top of our left-hand menu. What are current holders objectively saying/writing about it?
7.) If you have outstanding balance(s), look for offers that allow you to transfer for 0%, or a lower rate than what you are currently paying.
8.) Do not apply to numerous offers that you think you are not eligible for. Multiple declined applications will hurt your credit score.

Can I apply for more than one credit card?
Yes, there are no restrictions on the number of offers you can apply to. Many Americans have multiple credit cards. You should be aware that if you already have several credit cards, our issuer(s) may decide that your total available credit is too high - relative to your income - and may decide to decline your application.

Are credit card applications through this website secure?
Yes, all of your personal data will be encrypted using the latest industry-standard technologies, transmitted, and stored directly on our issuers' servers. The information will be viewed by authorized personnel only. We do not retain any of your personal data. Please read our privacy policy for more information.

I am interested in a credit card issued by a bank. Do I need to open an account with them first?
No, not for a conventional unsecured credit card. For a secured card, or a prepaid/debit card, you may need to open an account, depending on the issuer. The overwhelming majority will allow you to transfer funds directly from your current bank account to establish your credit line.

What is the difference between a credit card and a debit card?
A credit card allowes you to access funds from your credit line. When a purchase is made, and settlement occurs, funds are drawn from the credit line and deposited to the merchant's account.

A debit card is a payment card whose funds are withdrawn directly from your checking account. With an online debit card transaction (aka PIN debit), you authorize payment at the time of sale, and the funds are settled through a debit network. In the case of offline debit card transactions (usually Visa or MasterCard) you sign a receipt, as would be the case in a credit card transaction. In this case, the funds are transferred after batch settlement.

I have some additional questions, can I contact you directly?
